The annual ‘Walk Away @ IT Sligo’ event is taking place this coming Wednesday (6th of February) for all students and members of staff. The walk is being run as part of the IT’s annual Physical Activity and Health Week. It is being run to encourage both students and staff of the college to get out and become active. The event is being organised by 4th year marketing students along with Ross Lappin the Sports Development Officer in the college as part of the student’s professional development class. The event is free and open to all staff and students. There will be walking routes mapped out for the day and they will run between 12 and 3 o’clock. “Learning at Lunch”

A group of students from IT Sligo who are in their 3rd year studying Event management have organized a lunch time event with a twist.

They have teamed up with head chef of The Clarion Hotel Kevin Goonan to help raise funds for Special Olympics. They have organized for a cookery demonstration to take place in the main canteen of the college on the 23rd of March from 12.30-2pm. The demonstration is aimed at the students to learn healthy and easy ways to cook; it also is a way of helping to raise awareness of Special Olympics.

The group have arranged for the 2 dishes to be cooked in front of the audience to show how the food prepared and made from scratch, they will be shown what the best way to cook the dishes is and also shown just exactly how easy and enjoyable they are to make.

The dishes will be kept as a surprise for the day and the group have organized DJ Richie Burke to attend the event to play some music to keep up the atmosphere on the day. A guest speaker from Special Olympics will also attend the demonstration and speak of what the money raised will do for Special Olympics Connacht.

The event will be open to students and staff in the college so if you are interested in learning some new dishes for dinner or just want to help support the case call over on your lunch and enter in some of the draws that will be ran throughout the event.
