Acting students Step it Out

Acting students Step it Out  for IT Sligo Graduation Show, 2011

With a comedy “Stepping Out” written by Richard Harris

The 4th year Performing Arts students are busy rehearsing for their performance of the Richard Harris play “Stepping Out” and will be showcasing their acting talents at the upcoming graduation show taking place in The Hawks Well Theatre, Sligo at the end of this month. Distinguished guests on the night will include national talent agents who will be on the look out for fresh new Irish acting talent. This is part of their final assessment within the delivery of the acting programme at IT Sligo and offers the students a chance to meet with perspective employers and stakeholders within the Arts sector.

Stepping Out is a heart-warming comedy concerning seven individuals from disparate backgrounds and with differing motivations who attend the same weekly tap dancing class in a dingy North London church hall. Despite the tappers at first treating the classes as social occasions, and showing little co-ordination, they later develop a level of skill and cohesiveness. The dance routines are the backdrop for the focus of the play and the social interaction of all of the people involved. Stepping Out was written by Richard Harris in 1984. It was produced in the West End, London, where it received the Evening Standard Comedy of the Year Award and on Broadway, New York.

The Performing Arts graduation students’ production of Richard Harris’ Stepping Out commences for two nights only. The show will run from Saturday the 30th of April and Sunday the 1st of May 2011 at the Hawk’s well theatre, Sligo. Doors open at 7pm, and curtain is 8pm. Tickets are now on sale for €10, from IT Sligo, The Hawks Well theatre, and the Glass House hotel in Sligo town. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

If you have any queries on availability and booking of tickets, please contact Sarah Craig on 0863009511, or email c-ra-171@hotmail.com, or visit the Hawks Well theatre web site on, http://www.hawkswell.com/ , also find us on face book, IT Sligo’s performing Arts official site for up and coming events all around Ireland.
